While most towns have to shop at big chains, Mokena has more local options.

Welcome back. Grocery stores. Some call them supermarkets, or the old standby, "the store." As in: "I'm going to the store, need anything"? Many people are used to going to "the big guys" for groceries. In Mokena we have it even better. As in Berkot's and Brookhaven. Berkot's Super Food in Mokena is a happy reminder of more laid back, quieter days. Several years ago they completed a massive expansion and remodeling project that turned our quaint little grocery store into an even more full service but just as friendly place to fill a shopping cart. Higher Grocery Prices Haven't Sent Residents Out to Eat

A recent study found U.S. citizens dining out more, but that's not true in the Lincoln-Way area, according to restaurants.

Restaurants around the country might be experiencing a surge in business because of high grocery prices, but that's not the case in the Lincoln-Way area.  Marketing research firm NPD Inc. recently reported that U.S. diners were eating out more now than during the recession when supermarket food prices fell sharply, according to a January Reuters story. And although economists might be saying the recession is over, area residents still are pinching pennies. The blame is the blame and that brings us no further towards the solution. I believe in personal solutions, I have found my own solution to the this high price grocery issue.
