Police: Palos Heights Man Bloodies Nose, Leaves Scene After Hitting Hydrant

Michael H. Michalik, 25, was leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance after his car was found crashed into a fire hydrant in a vacant lot on 191st Street, Mokena Police report.

Michael H. Michalik, 25, of the 12100 block of South 70th Court in Palos Heights, was charged with for leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance Sept. 9, according to a Mokena Police report. Police went to a vacant lot in the 10200 block of West 191st Street at 11:55 p.m. on Sept. 8 after a report of an accident, in which Michalik's black 2001 Jeep Cherokee had hit a fire hydrant and water pipe. According to the police report, there was nobody near the car when police arrived, but there were signs of recent damage to the front windshield from the inside with no airbag deployment, indicating that the driver, who had left the scene, might have sustained head injuries. Police Blotter: Hit-and-Runner Stopped by Popped Hood

FRIDAY, DEC. 23 At least 11 construction tools were stolen from a 2007 green Chevy van parked in the 21700 block of London Bridge Drive over the night of Dec. 22 and 23, police said. The owner of the car showed officers where someone punched out the lock on the rear door. Tools reported stolen include six saws, a compressor, nail gun, hammer drill and two screw guns. MONDAY, DEC. 19 Patrick J. Payanoff, 51, of the 11800 block of London Bridge Drive in Mokena, was charged with violation of order of protection. Police said Payanoff parked his car within 1,000 feet of his home, where he has been forbidden by court order to return, and may have opened the garage. SATURDAY, NOV. 5 Christopher A. Jones, 35, of the 11300 block of Front Street in Mokena was arrested around 7:30 p.m. on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Will County, Tinley Park Police said. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. His bail was set at $4,000, according to the report. THURSDAY, NOV. 3 Christopher P. Gill, 43, of the 18000 block of Townline Road in Mokena, was charged with violating anti-theft law, driving with expired registration and driving with an open container of alcohol, New Lenox police said. SATURDAY, OCT. 31 Thomas M. Fegan, 66, of the 100 block of Forest Edge Drive in Palos Park, was charged with failure to reduce speed and leaving the scene of an accident. Police said Fegan rear-ended another car in the 18700 block of LaGrange Road around 10 p.m. on Oct. 29 and immediately drove off. Fegan—who contacted police two days later, after police made efforts to contact him—told the arresting officer that his foot slipped off the brake, hitting the accelerator, and that he drove away in a panic. FRIDAY, SEPT. 23 Daniel R. Lee, 27, of the 23600 block of South Bridle Path Drive in Manhattan, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, Mokena Police said. An officer on patrol in the 11200 block of West 191st Street saw a suspicious vehicle in an apartment parking lot. The car had two men inside. When the officer approached, he saw Lee move his hand to cover up a ripped bag containing cocaine and a $20 bill rolled up like a straw, police said. A total of 0.5 grams of cocaine was seized, according to the report. Lee was taken to Will County Jail. SATURDAY, SEPT. 20 Brittany A. Rotto, 22, of the 700 block of Schoolgate Road in New Lenox, and Sarah A. Frazier, 28, of the 10700 block of Mary Lane in Mokena, were cited for theft and disorderly conduct, police said. Police were called to Denny's, 19099 Old LaGrange Rd., after Rotto and Frazier tried to leave without paying their $44 tab at 6 a.m. The waitress said the two women ordered their food and asked for several items boxed, according to the report. Rotto would go back and forth to the bathroom, and the waitress told police it seemed the women were trying to skip out on their bill, but they were waiting for some Will County Sheriff's deputies to leave, according to the report. Tinley Cop Could Face Up To Three Years For Hit-And-Run

John Leonard, 37, could face one to three years if convicted, but also could get parole.

Tinley Park police officer John Leonard, 37, accused of driving away after rear-ending another vehicle in Frankfort at about 1 a.m. May 1, has been charged with leaving the scene of personal injury accident, a Class 4 felony, the Will County State's Attorney's Office said. Office spokesman Chuck Pelkie said the warrant was issued Friday afternoon. If convicted, Leonard could face one to three years in prison, although he could also be eligible for parole, Pelkie said. The passenger in the vehicle was not injured severely but was taken to the hospital. "(Leonard) was expected to surrender to the police department on Friday evening," Pelkie said.
