From 11 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, residents of Tinley Park, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Mokena and New Lenox can call Carey Limousine Chicago for a free ride home.
If you have too much to drink during your New Year's revels, don't drive. Call Safe Ride Home at 1-800-752-5400. From 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 to 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, residents of Tinley Park, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Mokena and New Lenox can call Carey Limousine Chicago Inc. at 1-800-752-5400 for a free ride home, only from establishments within the participating towns. The rides are completely free and only take people to their homes, not to other establishments. More than 100 people took part in the program last year. The program is funded by each of the five villages, along with a $1,500 grant from the Michael P. Gordon Memorial Foundation. The foundation was named in honor of a Chicago police officer who was killed in 2004 …
You know what you want to improve in 2012. What should everyone else work on?
The world's whirled itself back into roughly the same position it was 365 days ago, so it's time to make pledges to improve our lives. I've got my own list, which mainly involves the gym, fast food and confrontation (I've been avoiding the wrong ones), but here's a list of resolutions other people should make, culled from my own curmudgeonly self and my equally curmudgeonly friends. Read, enjoy, comment on them and add your own other-people-resolutions below. Suggest resolutions for the school districts, the village and other Mokena stakeholders.

For the past year, the Patch sites for Frankfort, New Lenox and Mokena have held a Chowdown Showdown, pitting eateries in the Lincoln-Way area against one another over a singular dish. We're going to show you our "best of the best" tomorrow, but in the meantime, tell us about your favorite restaurants. You can comment below or, if you really want to help out the restaurants that have given you and your families great food and great times, review the restaurants in our Patch Places directory.

Christmas may be green in Chicago's south suburbs, but in the meantime, check out the cool search engine effect.
Will it snow in the south suburbs this holiday weekend? Maybe not, but you can get some of the Christmas magic on Google. Join millions in typing "let it snow" in a Google search and watch what happens. You can clear it up by hitting the "defrost" button or by "scraping" with your mouse. According to forecasts from the National Weather Service in Romeoville, the Chicago area might not see much snow. This map shows little to no snow coverage throughout the area now, and most forecasts say we'll be without a White Christmas. The Weather Channel's forecast map shows that the Chicago area will be without a White Christmas. That doesn't necessarily mean we won't have snow; on that map, "White Christmas" means at least an inch of snow. According…

This week, your local editors tried cookies at places in Frankfort, New Lenox and Mokena. After we give our reviews, let us know who you think has the best for a shot at winning a $50 gift card to a local restaurant.
This week, local editors Joe Vince (Frankfort), Michael Sewall (New Lenox) and Paul Dailing (Mokena) tried cookies at restaurants and stores in their respective Patch towns. Read our reviews below, learn how to post your own and comment for a chance to win a $50 gift card to a local restaurant. The good: Leave this cookie for Santa and he'll give you tons of great presents. Baked in a skillet dish, this $7 Cookie Monster is gooey on the inside and crispy around the edges. For $2 more, I got it topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel, whipped cream and sprinkles. The bad: Leave this cookie for Santa and he'll end up outside your house in July saying, "C'mon man, just one more bite. You know I'm good for it in…
