The grandson of Will County Board Republican Chairman Jim Moustis was arrested on suspicion of stealing from his job, a source said.
A man arrested and accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his job at a cigarette wholesaler is the grandson of Will County Board Republican Chairman Jim Moustis, a source said. Nicholas Moustis, 23, of 21349 S. 80th Ave. in Frankfort, surrendered to the Mokena police on Friday and faces one count each of felony and misdemeanor theft. He posted $1,500 bail for his release. Mokena police Cmdr. Dan Rankovich said Nicholas Moustis stole more than $3,600 from his employer. The criminal complaint against Nicholas Moustis identified the victim of the theft as Mazher Khan. Units are open to residents not currently on the senior housing waiting list for the first time in the history of the township.
Frankfort Township recently announced that there are units immediately available at one of the township’s two senior housing complexes. This is an unprecedented occurrence within the township. In the past, township residents have spent years on the waiting list for the Autumn Valley and Lighthouse Pointe senior housing developments, according to a media release from Frankfort Township. Township Supervisor Jim Moustis says the waiting list includes approximately 80 people, but none are currently in a position to relocate. “I was a little surprised,” said Moustis. Nella Piccolin was sworn in as the township clerk on Monday.
Longtime Frankfort resident Nella Piccolin was recently selected by the Frankfort Township trustees as the new township clerk, according to a media release from the township. Piccolin was sworn in during the Frankfort town board meeting on Monday, said the release. “Nella has been active in our community for many years,” said Frankfort Township Supervisor Jim Moustis in the release. “She’s been a Frankfort Township trustee and a member of the Will County Board. She puts the people first, and that is what we look for in township government.” According to the release, Piccolin has lived in Frankfort for 36 years. The high cost of cigarettes in Cook County is driving smokers across the Will County line.
Updated: 12:46 p.m. Friday The Cook County Board approved the proposed budget, including the one-dollar tax increase on cigarettes, on Nov. 9, according to WGN Radio. --- Will County businesses that sell tobacco and border the Cook County line may benefit from a proposed one-dollar tax increase on cigarettes purchased in Cook County. The tax increase was proposed by Cook County Board president Toni Preckwinkle and will be up for tentative approval on Nov. 9, along with the entire Cook County budget. A pack of cigarettes currently carries a two-dollar tax from Cook County. If the proposal passes, the tax would increase the total state and county taxes on cigarettes to $4.98 a pack for residents. A state appeals judge could rule this week on the case of six Democratic candidates for Will County Board who were removed from November's ballot, the Chicago Tribune reports. The candidates were knocked off the ballot in late July after the Will County Electoral Board ruled that party leaders did not give proper notice for a meeting where the candidates were nominated. A Will County Circuit Court judge upheld that ruling in August, the report stated. Want a say about what's going on in the local high school district? The Lincoln-Way high school district is accepting applications for a board position after a member resigned Thursday. Member David Izzo was appointed to the Will County Board on Thursday, filling the vacated position of county representative Laurie Smith (R-New Lenox), who moved to Florida in October. The Will County Board voted Thursday on a new map that will increase the number of districts but drop representation from three to two people elected in each district.
Although Frankfort and New Lenox are being split up in Will County's recently approved district boundary changes, the current elected officials won't face a sticky, odd-person-out situation that other new districts could. The Will County Board voted Thursday morning to change its boundaries, increasing the number of districts from nine to 13 but cutting the overall number of representatives to 26, down one from the current makeup. Once every 10 years using U.S. Census data, the Will County Board must redraw the county’s district map so that each district serves about the same number of residents.
