D159 Board to Vote on Hiring Troy as New Business Manager

John Troy, the former Mokena District 159 board president, resigned in July to pursue the district's business manager position. Now, the board will decide Wednesday whether to hire him.

The Mokena School District 159 board will vote Wednesday to hire former Board President John Troy as the district's new business manager, according to the agenda for the board's Sept. 5 meeting. If the hiring is approved, Troy will begin work immediately, and his $68,000 annual salary will be prorated, according to district documents. The district has been without a business manager since the end of July after Kirt Hendrick, the previous manager, abruptly left the position, citing personal and professional reasons. Troy has been vocal about his interest in the post, telling Patch that the business manager position was an ideal match for his skills. On July 23, Troy resigned from the board, which he had been on since 2009 and had been …

Sorry...no. There are more than 2 Carols,Caroles. But I am glad to hear that you will be glad to pay for good production which I am hoping is from Mr. Troy. I'm hoping that he will be able to hook onto someone in an Elementary setting as that is where his position is. Anyone in this position is a miracle worker if they are doing their job and are aware of the regulations that effect the school.   more ›

WANTED: Business Manager for D159

The search for a new Business Manager in the Mokena Public School District 159 continues after former Business Manager Kirt Hendrick resigned at the end of July.

As the Mokena School District 159 Board of Education prepares to interview candidates for the vacant board seat during a closed session on Saturday, Aug. 11, administrators also continue another search—for a new district business manager. The seat remains vacant after former Business Manager Kirt Hendrick abruptly resigned at the end of July. District Superintendent Steve Stein and board members are currently conducting a search for a fulltime replacement for Hendrick. They hope to fill the role by September. “We haven't had any interviews yet, the board is still looking through applications,” Stein said. “We haven't been overwhelmed by [the number of] applications, but we've gotten quite a few.” Stein said that the job opening was posted …

D159 Board President Resigns

John Troy, Mokena District 159 board member since 2009 and current board president, resigned effective Monday, July 23. Troy plans to apply for the district's open business manager role and resigned to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

John Troy, President of the Mokena School District 159 Board of Education, resigned Monday, July 23. The resignation comes just two weeks after Troy voiced his interest in the district's vacant business manager position. “I am resigning my position on the Mokena Elementary School District Board of Education effective today [July 23]. Concurrent with my resignation I am submitting my application for the school district business manager position,” Troy's letter read. Previously Troy, who is currently attending Northern Illinois University to attain certification as a chief school business official, said that when Kirt Hendrick abruptly left the district the timing was “nearly perfect,” for him. “This is my career choice, it's what I've gone …

D159 Board President Might Shift into Business Manager Position

John Troy, current District 159 School Board President, would apply for the district's vacant business manager position. Troy told Patch the position would be an ideal fit for him, and he is ready to relinquish his role as president.

There might be a familiar face manning the Mokena School District 159 Business Manager position, if the board approves. Following the abrupt resignation of Kirt Hendrick, current school board president John Troy has already openly expressed interest in the position. “Since I've joined the board, I've been interested in becoming a chief business official,” Troy said. “When this position became open, I was like, 'Oh my! This is something that I should [pursue].' This is my career choice.” Although abrupt, the timing of Hendrick's resignation was "nearly perfect" for Troy, he said. A lawyer with an engineering degree from the University of Illinois and a master's in business administration, Troy is wrapping up certification as a chief school …

Actually, the reason the budget has improved so dramatically under this board is the fact that since the end of the 2010 school year alone, 200+ students have either withdrawn from the district, or parents with older children in the district have decided their younger siblings would be better served elsewhere and are not enrolling them in the first place. 200 less students at a cost of $8,000 per…   more ›

Transportation Fees Still Up In The Air For District 159

During the District 159 Board of Education meeting April 18, the board tabled a vote on transportation fees for the 2012-13 school year.

Before the Mokena District 159 Board of Education spiraled into an extended argument over when to hold meetings, the members took a look at after-school transportation fees for after-school activities during the 2012-13. Board member Patrick Markham made the motion to table the vote on transportation fees, to allow time to further review the fee structure. “I'd like to make an amendment motion to separate out the transportation fees for further analysis, and recommend the approval of the fees for the 2012–13 school year otherwise as presented,” Markham said. By tabling the vote on transportation fees, the board pushed back even further locking down the cost for students to ride the bus for the coming year. Currently, the district has …

After reading this article http://www.kmov.com/home/Illinois-may-let-schools-charge-for-bus-service-148571435.html it makes me wonder if Illinois "may let schools charge for bus service". Mokena is already charging, doesn't seem that they should be if the Education Board hasn't allowed it yet.   more ›
