Last Chance to Register for Farm and Barn Flea Market

The annual Mokena Farm and Barn Fest is set for Saturday, Aug. 18. The event will feature a flea market as part of the fun at The Oaks, across the street from Yunker Farm, from 8 a.m to 2 p.m.

It's once again time for the Mokena Farm and Barn Fest, which means it's time for residents from all over the Southland—and especially Mokena—to head to Yunker Farm for a day of family, food and fun. Occurring as part of the Farm and Barn Fest on Saturday, Aug. 18, is the Mokena Park District's Outdoor Flea Market, at The Oaks. Taking place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will feature fresh produce, new and used crafts, clothing, tools, and more. Registration for sellers is $20 before Friday, Aug. 17, or $25 the day of the event, and additional fees may apply. Sellers may check in anytime between 6:45 and 8 a.m at The Oaks; late arrivals will be charged a $10 late fee. Vendor spaces at the event are determined on a first-come, first-serve…

Last Chance to Donate a Quart for a Pint

Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church is holding a blood drive on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. For every quart of blood drawn, those donating will receive a voucher for a free pint of ice cream from Oberweis.

Get ready for orange juice and cookies! Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church is hosting a summer blood drive on Sunday, Aug. 12. The blood drive, which will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., will be conducted by Heartland Blood Centers. According to Heartland's website, all people who donate a pint of blood will receive a coupon for a free quart of Oberweis ice cream as part of the group's Pint-for-a-quart program.  To donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with a parent's signed permission, weigh at least 110 pounds, be symptom-free of all colds, flus and allergies, and be in general good health, according to the Heartland website. Last Chance to Putt the Library

Students in fourth through 12th grades are invited to the library's mini-golf event on Wednesday, July 25. The event will take place from 3-4 p.m.

Step up to the tee and take your best shot between the stacks, as the Mokena Community Public Library transforms into a wonderland of greens, tees and obstacles on Wednesday, July 25, as part of the library's summer reading program. The mini-golf in the library event will take place from 3-4 p.m. On the first and second floors of the library. Students in grades 4–12 are encouraged to work their way towards low par as they start on the first floor of the library and follow the course around the floor, down the stairs and through the lower level. Last Chance to Catch a Movie in the Park

The Mokena Community Park District will host a Movies in the Park event on Friday, July 27. The park district will be showing "Smurfs," rated PG, beginning at about 8:45 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Break out the popcorn, lawn chairs and blankets, it's time once again for a Movie in the Park, hosted by the Mokena Community Park District. On Friday, July 27, the park district will show “Smurfs,” starting at about 8:45 p.m. at Main Park. The event is free to attend and concessions will be available for purchase. “Smurfs,” starting Neil Patrick Harris, features a combination of live action and computer-generated animation, telling the story of what happens when the Smurfs tumble out of their magical world and end up in New York City. Last Chance at Firecracker Dance

Tickets for the 25th annual Mokena Lions Club's Firecracker Festival Dance & Sweepstakes are currently on sale. Tickets are $10 on presale, or $15 at the door. The event is Saturday, July 14, from 6 p.m.-midnight.

The fuse is lit and time is ticking down to the Mokena Lions Club's annual Firecracker Festival Dance & Sweepstakes. The dance is taking place this Saturday, July 14, from 6 p.m.-midnight in the Metra parking lot on Front Street. The event is only for adults age 21 and over. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Firecracker Dance, which will feature food, dancing and fun. The event will feature two live bands: Midlife Crisis and The Chico Smorgallees Jazz Ensemble. There will also be raffles with prizes of $5,000, $1,000 and $500, along with a bean bag tournament for those in attendance. Last Chance to Punt, Pass and Kick with the Mokena Park District

The Mokena Community Park District is hosting an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest on July 4, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Main Park.

Football might be a fall sport, but that isn't stopping the NFL and Mokena Park District from teaming up for a July 4 Punt, Pass, and Kick contest at Mokena Main Park. The event is open to boys and girls ages 6–15. The competition will be broken up by age group, and girls and boys will not compete against one another. The competition will have participants punt, pass and then kick a football, with their total yardage of the three events added together to find a winner. Participants must wear only soft-soled gym shoes during the competition, and must bring a copy of their birth certificate to verify their age. Last Chance for Lego Mania at the Library

Lego Mania returns to the library Tuesday, June 26, for a 45-minute building party for fourth-through eighth-graders.

It's time for Mokena students to break out their best building skills as Lego Mania returns to the Mokena Community Public Library on Tuesday, June 26. Fourth- through eighth-graders are welcome to attend the Lego-centric event at the library, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The annual event features thousands of bricks of Legos and a building explosion that often results in an enormous circular tower that can reach more than two feet tall. Last Chance for Pizza Tasting Contest at the Library

The Mokena Community Public Library is hosting a pizza tasting contest Thursday, June 14, from 3-4 p.m. for all students in fourth-eighth grades.

The Mokena Community Public Library is putting out a call to all pizza aficionados in grades 4–8 in Mokena. The library wants to know who's King of the Crust, the Sultan of Sauce and the Prince of Pepperoni, with its Pizza Tasting Contest on Thursday, June 14. Last Chance to Preregister for the Summertime Stride 5K

Time is dwindling for runners to preregister for the Mokena Community Park District's Summertime Stride 5K, set for Saturday, June 9. Preregistration ends June 7.

Lace up your running shoes, hitch up those track shorts and pin on your race number—the Summertime Stride 5K is almost here. The race, which takes place Saturday, June 9, will feature prizes for each of the top three finishers in different age categories and genders, as well as for male and female overall winners. The race will be begin and end at Main Park, with the course covering mostly over asphalt or sidewalks after it leaves the park grounds. The last chance to preregister for the race and receive a discounted fee is Thursday, June 7. Last Chance for Driving Class for Seniors

Last chance for residents to attend a seminar about the rules of the road, presented by the Illinois Secretary of State's office.

The Illinois Secretary of State's office is coming to the area on Monday, June 4, for a seminar geared towards senior citizens and the disabled who might need to brush up on their driving skills. The seminar, titled, “Illinois Seniors Rules of the Road Review,” will be held at the Frankfort Township Building,11000 W. Lincoln Highway, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The seminar is designed to give attendees “the knowledge and confidence needed to renew or obtain a driver's license,” according to the Secretary of State's website.
