The Lincoln-Way Board of Education voted to hire teachers and reported on tax disbursements.
The Lincoln-Way High School Board of Education hired nine new teachers and an aquatics assistant supervisor for LW-North High School at the regular meeting May 23 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 Gougar Road. Deputy Supt. Thomas Eddy selected new teaching staff to cover a variety of subject areas. New Hires: The district's new aquatics assistant supervisor is Lauren Hurley. Financial updates Supt. Lawrence Wyllie told board members that the district received $2.2 million in tax disbursements, bringing the total fund balance to $4.2 million. Before the month is out, he expects another $15-to-$18 million in tax disbursement payments from the office of Will County Treasurer Steve Weber. "It's a little better than last year," he added, …

Newsweek tipped its hat in favor of all four schools in Lincoln-Way High School District 210 when naming the best high schools in the country. “Congratulations on your school’s accomplishment,” Newsweek/Daily Beast reporter Lauren Streib wrote in a note to Lincoln-Way High School District 210. “I’m thrilled to let you know that (Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West) made our list.” Based on information gathered for the 2011-12 school year, Newsweek and The Daily Beast determined all four Lincoln-Way High School District 210 schools have proven to be among the most effective in turning out college-ready grads. Social media misbehavior affecting local kids and schools requires a prudent decision.
Lincoln-Way Patch users, Patch editors are aware of the existence of a social media account through which someone is posting obscene, hurtful, slanderous and humiliating comments about a number of children who attend Lincoln-Way high schools. A few parents and teen-agers have tried to publicize this account on Patch and on our Facebook pages. We believe widening the audience for a social media bully would be irresponsible. Until we are able to gather the facts that allow us to report on the situation in an informative and responsible manner, we choose not to risk further humiliation of the children being targeted. Lincoln-Way North's Linda Egnatz wins Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented with award in surprise visit.
Lincoln-Way North High School teacher Linda Egnatz got the surprise of her life—and a Golden Apple Award—during a visit from Golden Apple representatives May 1. Egnatz, who teaches Spanish III, Spanish IV, Spanish V, AP Language, AP Literature at Lincoln-Way North High School, was presented with a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in front of her students. An excited and overwhelmed Egnatz thanked the administrators, those involved in her nomination and the students. “When I see my students interacting with locals in another country, I know they are prepared,” Egnatz said in a Golden Apple press release. Her students develop the confidence that builds motivation, and they make connections that engender global understanding …

Out of the nine only three seem to be logical assets to our school, important subjects of math, science, and English, that much is understandable. But what of the other six? Are they really necessary? Just what exactly is required from them? How many students do they deal with as compared to a math or science teacher or even a history teacher?
