The Rolling Falcons are hoping to make it to Louisville for the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Tournament.
The Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Association is hoping to raise money toward an $8,000 tab to transport two teams of Rolling Falcons to the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Tournament this April in Louisville, KY. Among other efforts to raise funds is a 10-percent profit donation from all meals purchased today at Frankfort's Meatheads Restaurant, 11129 W. Lincoln Highway. Keith Wallace, LWSRA spokesperson. The Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Association received a $50,000 donation Tuesday, providing a fundraising boost as it looks to build a recreation center for people with disabilities.
With its eyes set on a recreation center to call their own, members of the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Association have been focused on fundraising all year. On Tuesday, LWSRA got a big boost toward the goal, receiving a $50,000 check from the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Foundation. The association serves about 250 people with special needs from the Frankfort, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox and Peotone park districts. Last year, it received a $2.5 million grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for a 24,000-square-foot building in the Heather Glen subdivision off Laraway Road. After years of using various spots for programs and practices, the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Association will have a place to call home. The New Lenox Park District was awarded a $2.5 million state grant Monday on behalf of the Special Recreation Association, and the money will go toward a recreation center in New Lenox constructed with special attention for the association's participants, which parents say is something they don't get anywhere else for their children. The building would include a wheelchair-friendly gym and classrooms, a teaching kitchen and other accessible features.
