Find out how Lincoln-Way West Warriors head coach Dave Ernst went from an offensive coordinator to his current position, and watch a video preview of the team.
In the working world, some people are presented with two options: to either stay where they are within their cozy surroundings or take a chance and make a leap into uncharted territory. Dave Ernst got the opportunity to take a leap. After being the offensive coordinator at Providence Catholic from 1995-2000, Lincoln-Way Central from 2002-2007 and Lincoln-Way West from 2008-2011, Dave Ernst finally got the chance to take the position of head coach for the Warriors coming into the 2012 season after coach Mark VanderKooi became an athletic director. "It was one of those things when Mark got the job, I thought being a head coach would be fun," Ernst said. However, being a head coach isn't always 'fun,' the position comes with many …

Lincoln-Way West's football team has only existed three years. Joliet Catholic has more state championships than any other team. So following Friday's 48-14 loss, look to the Hillmen for ways to build a long-term program that keep winning.
Get to the high ground! This is battle. The upper ground is the upper hand, and for the young Lincoln-Way West Warriors, a first-round playoff matchup this weekend was a mighty uphill climb. For the kings atop this hill were the Hillmen of Joliet Catholic Academy, the most storied football program in all of Illinois. A No. 4 seed against a No. 5 seed, yes. Both with 7-2 records, sure. But this is the big-time, and a 48-14 loss to the Hillmen brought the Warriors back to earth Friday night. Joliet Memorial Stadium is just a short trip to the west, and if you avoid the Interstate 80 construction you'll swoop past the growing number of empty storefronts and overgrown front lawns, the county courthouse and the riverboat casino. It’s the haves …

The Warriors offense couldn't get it going, and Joliet Catholic scored six rushing touchdowns.
After Lincoln-Way West shut down Joliet Catholic's high-powered offense (47 ppg) on the first two drives, junior Ty Isaac took control on a 67-yard burst for the game's first score. He would score two more times as the Hillmen dominated the Warriors 48-14 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. West's defense was good at times but didn't get much help: A failed onside kick recovery and an offensive fumble gave the Hillmen a short field multiple times. Joliet Catholic's defense was phenomenal, especially the D-line, which held Warrior running back Nick Dangles to about 35 yards. The game was well out of reach before West got on the scoreboard, first with a nice screen pass to senior Brad Watson, and then on a trick play that allowed …
Lincoln-Way West junior running back Nick Dangles carried the load for the Warriors in a 28-20 football victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. His fans carried the load for him in voting for Patch's Athlete of the Week.
If there was ever a doubt about the strength of the relationship between Lincoln-Way West junior running back Nick Dangles and the big boys throwing blocks for him in the trenches, then offensive lineman Jake Benson’s comments should put that notion to bed. “He’s been our workhorse all season, and once again he carried us,” Benson said after Dangles rushed for 148 yards and scored two touchdowns in Lincoln-Way West’s 28-20 football victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. Dangles scored on runs of 3 and 75 yards before exiting in the fourth quarter with an injury. His performance helped the Warriors (7-2, 6-1) wrap up a share of the Southwest Suburban Red Conference championship in their regular-season finale. He is honored today as the Patch …
