Meijer Brings 250 New Jobs to the L-W Communities
Meijer Supercenter is on track for new jobs and fresh revenue.
The Mokena-based Meijer Supercenter development is on track to bring in new jobs and fresh revenue. Kirk Zoellner, assistant village administrator, said the Meijer development, slated for location at the Mokena Marketplace retail center at the southwest corner of Route 30 and Wolf Road, is expected to generate $750,000 in fresh Village sales tax revenue. In addition, another $150,000 is expected to filter into the coffers at Mokena School District 159 in the form of property tax revenue, said Zoellner. The 190,000-square-foot supercenter is estimated to cost approximately $15 million. “… 750K$ in fresh Village sales tax revenue.” Sounds good but it won’t be enough to cover the combined salaries and pension cost for the soon to be hired Economic Development Director and the associated staff when the new administration takes office. Maybe if Mokena can get even more stores and the related congestion that follows, along with more dead end jobs and increased crime rate, our great …   more ›
