Get ready Mokena, the Mokena Area Historical Society's Historical House and Garden tour is set to return Saturday, June 23. During the Mokena Village Board meeting on Tuesday, May 29, Mokena Historical Society President Doug Heathcock spoke before the board about just what exactly residents can expect during the tour. “This is not like other house and garden tours that you may have been on or you may have heard about,” Heathcock said. “This is different.” Heathcock said that there will be seven sites on the tour, which will cost $10 per person. The cost covers a guided tour via tram, which will be pulled by an old-fashioned tractor. The tours start at 10 a.m. and will run throughout the day until the final tram at 2:30 p.m, Heathcock said…

As St. John's United Church of Christ prepares for a special service this Sunday to celebrate its 150th anniversary, here's a look back at the church's history. The following text comes from "The Story of Mokena," a book put out by the Mokena Woman's Club in the 1960s. The full text, reprinted with club permission by the Mokena Area Historical Society, is available for download at the village website. All spelling and punctuation is as it appears in the original text. Share your memories of St. John's United Church of Christ in the Patch Places directory.
