Tackle football players for the Mokena Burros can no longer wear pink gear in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For years, Mokena Burros youth football players have worn pink athletic gear during October games to honor breast cancer survivors. And in the NFL, October is the season where the pros go pink. Every player wears pink shoes, pink socks, pink wrist-bands and more throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Boys and men might not always be fond of pink; October is the exception. But Mokena Burros Athletic Director Sal Della Fave says the young Burros who play tackle football can no longer wear pink. Lincoln-Way North will host its annual Community Night on Friday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. Events include performances by the Marching Phoenix, the Poms and and the cheerleading teams. The fall athletic teams will be introduced and the varsity football team will have a scrimmage. The Phoenix will host Lincoln-Way Central in football the following Friday, Aug. 26. The Mokena Burros Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization is having a kickoff party on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 191 South in Mokena (10160 191st Street).
