PHOTO GALLERY: Business Expo & Health Fair Bustles with Visitors

60-plus businesses featured their wares at the annual Business Expo & Health Fair.

The Mokena Chamber of Commerce Community Business Expo & Health Fair had a full house Saturday. More than 60 vendors set up exhibits to entertain, instruct, share information and promote their wares at the annual Mokena Chamber of Commerce event at The Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center, 10847 LaPorte Road. The showcase of businesses came with entertainment too from the Lincoln-Way East Madrigal Singers and Family Martial Arts, 8500 W. 191st St. Chamber Administrator Gail Bastas described the expo as a place where "local businesses will showcase their services and products." They came from Mokena, Tinley Park, New Lenox and Frankfort.  About 350 people took advantage of the day, said Bastas.  Get updates from these Lincoln-Way Patch sites:

Dan's Homemade Candies Makes Mokena Home

The Mokena Chamber of Commerce sponsored a ribbon cutting ceremony for Dan's Homemade Candies.

A dreary rain Thursday didn't stop fans of Dan's Homemade Candies from coming out to a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome a sweet group of entrepreneurs to Mokena. Dan's Homemade Candies, 11400 W. Lincoln Highway, opened its third store along the busy Route 30 Corridor. The family owned business made their guests feel right at home by offering a variety of delectable delights as samples. The business, which is owned by Karen Nolan, is a family venture.  In one way or another, the bulk of employees at Dan's are run by members of the Nelson Family. A sister and store manager, Kelly Bostjancic, makes sure that customers feel right at home when they enter the doors of the charming candy shop. The shop sells everything from caramels, English …

The farmer's market brings a host of fresh goods each Saturday from April through October. It also drew a number of opinion submissions and several stories that highlight the specialty goods offered there.      Meanwhile, fashion shows and candy stores got us thinking about something fresh, something new in the air. Businesses took advantage of fresh locations too. It was a chance to build a bigger customer base, while staying in the community that is home. New tax laws in Cook County brought more business into Mokena. Smiles were all around for new businesses, celebrations and outreach efforts.  As temperatures began to get a bit nippy, Mokena business supporters and businesses found ways to keep you warm and happy.  In the spirit of …
