Bloom Township has two teams on their schedule with winning records and one of the teams is Crete-Monee. We going to take them down just like in past seasons, that 4-1 record is full of cupcakes & weak teams. My son's freshman team could beat Fenton & Philips.   more ›

Glory Days

Mother McAuley's 1977 Championship Team Paved Way for Future Success

Look what they're doing now: Mighty Macs have won state-best 13 volleyball titles.

Whenever Donna Smith attends a Mother McAuley volleyball match, she never knows who she may bump into from the past. That always puts a smile on her face. “We still have players and parents come back to watch the new teams every year even though they graduated,” said Smith, who coached Mother McAuley’s first state-champion volleyball team in 1977 and is still involved with the program. “Once you’re part of the program, you’re part of it for life," Smith said. Glory Days

Former Coach Donna Smith Had Good Feeling About Mother McAuley's First Volleyball State Championship Team

Standout player Cathy Spencer Moran proud to be part of tradition-rich program's first title in 1977, proud to relive the Glory Days of the Mighty Macs.

Mother McAuley capped a perfect 32-0 season by beating Queen of Peace 20-9, 20-3 for the first of what would become many state volleyball championships for the program. “It was a good group of people,” Moran said. “Everyone got along and we just had a blast together. A lot of us hung out together even when we weren’t on the court. Donna (Smith…

No. 1: Mother McAuley Starts On Top of Girls Volleyball Heap

Powell, Mighty Macs rate No. 1 in Patch Power rankings heading into season-opener tonight vs. Joliet Catholic Academy. Zielinski injury clouds picture at Marist.

1. Mother McAuley: For the Mighty Macs, it starts with defense. And few can match the play of senior libero Bridget Powell in that area. Powell will be tested in Mother McAuley’s opener today vs. Joliet Catholic Academy. How many times can she dig up the ball and sustain a rally? 2. Marist: Six-four senior middle Lauren Zielinski is recovering from right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. In her absence, the RedHawks will turn to junior outside hitter Mallory Salis for firepower. Marist is looking to build off a 37-3 season that included a postseason victory over rival Mother McAuley. 3. Sandburg: Until somebody knocks them off their perch, the Eagles will continue to rule the roost in the Southwest Suburban Blue. Dakota Hampton & …
