A team of basketball players from the New Lenox Fire Protection District will be playing the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association team, the Rolling Falcons, to raise funds.
A team from the New Lenox Fire Protection District will be seated in wheelchairs to play against the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association's Rolling Falcons. The game is a fundraiser to benefit the LWSRA. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway. Tickets can be purchased at NLFPD Station One, 261 E. Maple St., or at the LWSRA Office, which is temporarily housed at Lincoln-Way Central High School. "Last year we had a good turn-out, but I would like to have a great one this year," said NLFPD Firefighter John Harkenrider. "It's for a good cause, and it's a lot of fun," he added. A car went in the pond at Lincoln-Way Central High April 26. Divers fished it out April 27.
New Lenox Fire Protection District fished a car out of the pond at Lincoln-Way Central High School. Divers from NLFPD about 10 a.m. April 27 pulled a vehicle from the pond on the north end of Lincoln-Way Central High School, 18001 E. Lincoln Highway. According to NLFPD Battalion Chief Chris Ward, the car went in the pond about 9 a.m. the day before. The vehicle, a silver Saturn, belonged to a teacher at Lincoln-Way Central High School. The identity of the vehicle's owner has not been released. Ward said she had parked her car along the edge of the lot in front of the pond about 30-minutes to an hour before it was discovered to have entered the water. A New Lenox family was forced out of their home when fire broke out about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on Reagan Road.
New Lenox Fire Protection District and seven other assisting fire departments worked for about 40 minutes to douse the flames in a one-story home with a loft. The fire started about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at 13133 Reagan Road in unincorporated New Lenox. No one was injured in the blaze, said New Lenox Fire Protection Chief Jon Mead. Firefighters struggled to with the loft area, where smoke was continuing to billow more than 90-minutes later. The owners, Dan and Janet Remes and their two children, 21-year-old Ashley and 17-year-old Cody escaped injury. The family has not been able to find their dog, a jack russel. Two people were injured in a semi-truck-car crash on Interstate 80 at Route 30. The two were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
UPDATE: Tuesday--9:40 p.m. Illinois State Police Sgt. Jeff Padilla said the driver of the semi-truck had passed out at the wheel after having taken some medication. He was in the right lane of traffic and drifted across all four lanes, clipping the front-end of the SUV. The trailer went all the way left into the wire median, where it came to a stop. The SUV rolled into the right ditch. Both drivers received non-life threatening injuries, according to Padilla. The semi-truck driver was issued a ticked for improper lane use. Candles and twinkling lights are beautiful at Christmas, but they have the potential to ruin holiday celebrations. Christmas trees and a heat source too close to the tree are blamed for one in every five of roughly 260 structure fires each year, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Will County Sheriff's Department and New Lenox Fire Protection District were on the scene at a rollover accident at Delaney and Cedar Roads.
Two people escaped serious injury in a two-car rollover accident just before 1 a.m. at Delaney and Cedar Roads. The New Lenox Fire Protection District transported two people—a 19-year-old New Lenox woman and a 24-year-old Manhattan man—to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The identies of the two were not released; however, the Will County Sheriff's Department said they had complained of "neck and back soreness." Kathy Hoffmeyer, Will County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, said Kyle Greenfield, 21, of Manhattan, was ticketed for texting while driving and for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Traffic is stopped on Interstate 80 after a semi truck going west crossed the median and collided with another car, a witness said.
A semi truck collided with another car Monday morning on Interstate 80, closing down lanes and sending two people to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. According to a witness on the scene, a truck headed westbound blew out a tire and crossed the median, hitting a car that was moving east. The accident occurred just east of Gougar Road in New Lenox. The witness said an infant was removed from the car and appeared to be OK. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital, but the witness said she appeared conscious. Hello I am a lincoln way central student. The car itself was parked up by the building. when it then rolled across the entry lane (off of schoolhouse) through the other parking spots on the other side of the parking lot lane then went over the curb and into the pond and it eventually made its way into the middle.
