Local Foundation Offering Over 50 Full-ride College Scholarships

The Give Something Back Foundation wants to make college accessible for kids who otherwise wouldn't have the financial means to attend.

Lockport-based Give Something Back Foundation wants to buy a college education for over 50 Will County students, the Sun-Times Media reports. $3 million was set aside to prefund full-ride scholarships to 52 incoming high school freshmen. Three colleges are participating in the scholarship, which begins next year: University of St. Francis, Lewis University or Blackburn College. Recipients of the scholarship will be provided help from tutors and mentors to help high school freshmen prepare for college. When they graduate from high school, the students will get a full-ride scholarship to one of the three colleges. The scholarship is no walk in the park, however. Immanuel Lutheran Preschool to Help College-Bound Students

Immanuel Lutheran Preschool will award three $500 scholarships to former students.

Preschool may be a distant memory to most high school seniors, but one Mokena preschool is remembering its former pupils in a big way. Next spring, Immanuel Lutheran Preschool, 10731 W. LaPorte Road, will award $500 scholarships to three of its qualifying college-bound alumni. The scholarships will be presented at the preschool's graduation ceremony and at the Lincoln-Way High School Scholarship Awards Day. Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church's Board of Christian Education and the preschool staff created the annual scholarship plan to "give back to the community," according to Lois Mayer, preschool director.
