LWHS D210 Supt. Larry Wyllie's Retirement Saves the District a Chunk of Change

LWHS District 210 is expected in the 2013-2014 school year to save $65,334.77 in salary alone with the shift from the soon-to-be retired Supt. Lawrence Wyllie to Scott Tingley, the superintendent-to-be. According to the contract, the compensation package for the 24-year veteran superintendent was identical to all other LWHS District 210 administrators. The contract states: "… (T)he salary increase will be equal to the average salary increase approved by the board for all administrators." In a comparison between Wyllie's 2012-2013 contract and Tingley's for next year, the district stands to save $915.84 in the pension contribution plan. Sharon Michalak Appointed L-W East Principal

Michalak, who has served District 210 for decades, will begin her principal duties July 1.

The Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Sharon Michalak as the new principal of Lincoln-Way East High School at a board meeting on Dec. 13, according to a media release from the district. Michalak has served Lincoln-Way schools in several capacities throughout her career in education, including her current position as assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and staff development. Thursday’s decision regarding Michalak followed the announcement that District Superintendent Dr. Lawrence A. Larry Wyllie, who served as the superintendent of Lincoln-Way High School District 210 for 24 years, announced his retirement at the regular Thursday board of education meeting. Wyllie takes time to reflect on his career shaping a generation of students at four high schools and his decision to retire at the end of the school year. For a man whose day regularly starts before 6 a.m. and frequently stretches toward midnight, he said he's ready to hand over the reins to Scott Tingley, the newly announced superintendent-to-be and current principal at Lincoln-Way East High School. Scott Tingley Appointed Lincoln-Way 210 Superintendent

The principal of Lincoln Way East High School in Frankfort will succeed retiring superintendent Lawrence Wyllie.

The Lincoln-Way School District 210 Board of Education appointed Scott Tingley as the new superintendent upon the retirement of Lawrence Wyllie, who announced his decision to step down Thursday evening. Tingley, 40, has worked for Lincoln-Way for 16 years. He began his teaching career at Lincoln-Way High School in 1994, teaching business and social science. He also coached boys’ basketball in his early years. “The Board of Education believes that Dr. Tingley is the right person at the right time to lead District 210 forward – building upon not only its strong culture and tradition of success but also its core belief that ‘great is never good enough,” said Dr. Arvid C. I think the schools are top notch. it's about the process that this board operates under. You're right, no one has said anything negative about Tingley. He'll probably do fine. L-W East Officials Shower Praise on Gatorade Track Athlete of the Year Aaliyah Brown

Lincoln-Way East girls track and field standout Aaliyah Brown is recognized as the 2012 Gatorade Illinois Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year during a ceremony at school on Thursday.

"Mature for her age." "... works very hard to excel at an incredible level." The words were used to describe Lincoln-Way East track and field standout Aaliyah Brown during a formal presentation at school Thursday to recognize her for being named the 2012 Gatorade Illinois Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Brown, who just started her senior year at Lincoln-Way East, led the Griffins to a fourth-place finish in the Class 3A state meet last spring. She won the 200-meter dash (24.18) and placed second in the 100 (11.67). She also ran legs on two second-place relay teams. Brown teamed with Sydney Barrera, Maria Perozzi and Dana O'Grady for a clocking of 47.66 in the 4x100 and with O'Grady, Perozzi and Nicole Nepote for a time of 3:52.45 …

After the retirement of Brenda Jensen as principal of Lincoln-Way East, the Griffins were a school looking for a new leader. The students, faculty and the L-W East community, they didn't have to look far for a new head master. When school resumes on Aug. 18, new principal Scott Tingley will begin his tenure as top Griffin.
