The president's small-business comments upset many people and gave Republican Mitt Romney a point of attack. But Barack Obama said the comments were taken out of context. What do you think? Take the Patch Poll.
President Barack Obama's recent comments about small business created a firestorm that could become a focus of the 2012 election — even as Obama and his supporters say his comments were taken out of context. "Look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own," he said during a July 13 speech in Virginia. "If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help ... If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." Take the Patch poll below: Who plays the most significant role in creating jobs and economic growth? That's not the entire speech, which you can read on the independent FactCheck.org. According to that post, the comments were taken out of context: "There’s no question …

The mixed-use building at 198th and Wolf Road needs some new tenants. Realtos say the spot offers premium visibility and has several empty commercial units in need of tenants. What do you think would fit?

A sandwich shop? A nail salon? A dentist office? The mixed-use building at 198th and Wolf Road offers premium visibility and has several empty commercial units in need of tenants.
The building at 19806 Wolf Road towers over the train tracks near Front Street—putting it right smack dab in the view of commuters. It's a prime spot, said realtor Dan Hurley, and they're just waiting for the right tenant to swoop in and put their personal touch on one of the three available commercial units. There are several units open, ranging in size from 1,048 to 1,148 square feet. Ideally, Hurley and the building's owner would like to see something like a Subway or similar sandwich shop. It might also make a good space for a small gym, dentist or doctor's office, or boutique. The open units are sandwiched between an insurance office, a salon and a candy store, and have never been occupied. The building also houses 24 residential …

When Clock Tower Gifts quietly closed up shop in January, it left a large and public vacancy at 187th and Wolf. We're curious—what do YOU think should fill this hole?
Monday, April 2, 2012
Weigh in on what you would like to see at the site of the former Clock Tower Gifts at Wolf Road and 187th Street.
When Clock Tower Gifts quietly closed up shop in January, it left a large and public vacancy at 187th and Wolf. In the same complex as local mainstay Fox's on Wolf and several other stores and salons, the site has visibility, space and, of course, a clock tower with the Mokena logo on it. What would you like to see there? A restaurant? A boutique? Indoor mini-golf? Let us know in the comments below or tell us on Facebook. Community columnist Don Labriola give's Front Street barber Tony Dina's "singe haircut" a try.
Welcome back. For most most of us, growing up included a series of lessons from our parents. Be polite, respect your elders, be honest, study hard, don't play with matches or sharp objects, etc. Pretty much all that was true in the Dina household for son Tony Jr. Except for the last two. What? The Dinas didn't teach their son not to play with matches or sharp objects? Not only did they not warn little Tony away from such dangers, they encouraged it! How could this be? An upstanding, God-fearing Mokena family like the Dina's? There must be a catch. And there is. Sorry, but I just couldn't help but take you all for a little roller coaster ride for a few paragraphs. Of course little Tony was introduced to sharp objects. Except they were the …
