Will County District 12 Board Members Ready to Stay the Course
Republicans Tom Weigel, New Lenox, and Margo McDermed, Mokena, were the top two vote-getters in the race for District 12 board members.
Tom Weigel, an eight-year veteran of the Will County Board, and the newly-elected Margo McDermed, said Wednesday that they are looking to stay the conservative spending course that the board has exercised. However, both agreed that attracting new business and infrastructure improvements will mark their efforts moving forward. Weigel, who chairs the County's Land Use and Development Committee along with the Forest Preserve Finance Committee, said the numbers revealed bipartisan support for the multiple projects he supported or ushered in over the last several years, such as conservation programs along with the identification of federal grant money, he said. Weigel, McDermed Elected to Will County Board
The two Republicans beat out two Democratic challengers for the District 12 seats, which represent New Lenox and Mokena in Will County.
Area voters elected incumbent Tom Weigel and Frankfort Township Clerk Margo McDermed to the Will County Board on Tuesday, handily beating out two Democratic challengers. The District 12 seat represents residents in New Lenox and Mokena. Weigel, of New Lenox, and McDeremed, of Mokena, carried all 27 precincts, getting the top two vote totals at each polling place. They beat out Democratic challengers Santino Lettieri and John Sanchez Jr., who both joined the race following the March primary. In March, Weigel and McDermed defeated New Lenox Village Trustee Ray Tuminello and Lincoln-Way school board member Chris Kosel. D210 Board Member Resigns; L-Way Accepting Applications to Fill Spot
Board member David Izzo was appointed to the Will County Board this week, leaving his spot on the District 210 school board open. The district will accept applications through Nov. 30.
Want a say about what's going on in the local high school district? The Lincoln-Way high school district is accepting applications for a board position after a member resigned Thursday. Member David Izzo was appointed to the Will County Board on Thursday, filling the vacated position of county representative Laurie Smith (R-New Lenox), who moved to Florida in October. New Lenox Trustee Ray Tuminello to Run for Will County Board
Tuminello, elected in 2005 to the New Lenox Village Board, could potentially fill an open seat left by departing Will County Board member Laurie Smith (R-New Lenox).
With new Will County boundaries shaking up the 2012 election, New Lenox village trustee Ray Tuminello is throwing his hat in the ring for the county board. Tuminello, a trustee on the New Lenox Village Board since 2005, officially announced his candidacy Aug. 20 at the New Lenox Township GOP meeting and notified the press Wednesday night. He will run in the March 20, 2012, primary election after considering the move for a couple years. Earlier this summer, the Will County Board approved new district boundaries that increased the number of districts from nine to 13 but cut the overall number of representatives to 26, or two per district. The Hub Pays Permit Fee, Awaits Decision Before Re-Opening

Popular youth hangout spot The Hub, which closed this summer while dealing with zoning issues, has spent nearly 90 percent of its operating budget to try to re-open its doors and continue its mission of providing kids a safe place to hang out. The Hub closed for the summer because it wasn't permitted in the industrial location in which it resides off of Schoolhouse Road. Director Dan Stinnett was required to apply for a special use permit or close The Hub, and after shutting the doors in June, he paid the permit application fee last week. Even if the Will County Board grants The Hub the special use permit, the next roadblock will be recouping those costs and becoming more solvent. The application alone for a special use permit is $3,750, …

Frankfort, New Lenox Split in County Reshuffling
The Will County Board voted Thursday on a new map that will increase the number of districts but drop representation from three to two people elected in each district.
Although Frankfort and New Lenox are being split up in Will County's recently approved district boundary changes, the current elected officials won't face a sticky, odd-person-out situation that other new districts could. The Will County Board voted Thursday morning to change its boundaries, increasing the number of districts from nine to 13 but cutting the overall number of representatives to 26, down one from the current makeup. Once every 10 years using U.S. Census data, the Will County Board must redraw the county’s district map so that each district serves about the same number of residents. Steve, to clarify, the village doesn't have a part in this. The Hub is in New Lenox Township, and the issues are with Will County government, not the village. The Hub needed to apply for a special use permit and make upgrades based on the county, not village. more ›
