SATURDAY, DEC. 22 Shane McEldowney, 19, of the 7600 block of W. New Castle Drive in Frankfort, was arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol after he stepped into the roadway on the 20000 block of S. 80th Avenue in Frankfort at 1:45 a.m. and was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to Silver Cross Hospital by personnel from the Frankfort Fire Protection District and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police report information is provided by the Frankfort Police Department, Will County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. Mokena Police reports, Aug. 28-Sept. 3 • Teen Runs Red Light, Charged With Underage Drinking.
MONDAY, SEPT. 3 Luke D. Vaicaitis, 19, of the 8800 block of Clifton Way, was charged with underage drinking, possession of drug equipment, disobeying a traffic control signal and driving without insurance after a traffic stop near LaGrange Road and 191st Street. An officer saw Vaicaitis make a right turn at a red light without stopping at the intersection of La Grange Road and 191st Street at 11:48 p.m. and subsequently pulled him over, the report stated. Vaicaitis gave the officer his driver's license but could not produce proof of insurance. The officer smelled alcohol on Vaicaitis's breath and noticed he had glassy, bloodshot eyes. SUNDAY, AUG. 19 Two 17-year-old boys—one from Mokena and one from Frankfort—were arrested on the 1100 block of First Street and charged with underage consumption of alcohol and interference with a village officer when they were caught running from police, according to the report. The officer saw the teens walking down the sidewalk on First Street at 1:50 a.m., and when he approached them in his squad car, they began to run. After a foot chase, the officer caught the Frankfort teen behind Avalanche Jewelry, according to the report. The teen told the officer that he ran because he was out past curfew, and he was only 17, the report stated. Eduardo Villagomez, 19, and two 17-year-olds face charges of underage drinking, marijuana possession and obstructing a police officer after vandalizing an O'Connel Street home.
Three Mokena teenagers were arrested and charged with underage consumption of alcohol and possession of marijuana on Aug. 15 after they were seen fleeing from the scene of a case of criminal property damage, according to a Mokena Police report. Two of the teens, both 17, also were charged with interfering with a village officer. The owner of the vandalized property has agreed to not press charges after the alleged offender's parents offered to pay for the damage. Police were dispatched to Stirn’s house around 2:30 a.m. about a domestic dispute and found him hiding under a car in the driveway. He failed a Breathalyzer exam, according to the report. Police made 24 arrests in connection with an underage drinking party in Mokena on June 5. Mokena police responded to the 19500 block of Glennell Avenue to a report of an underage drinking party. According to the police report, the responding officers saw a large number of cars parked along Glennell Avenue—so many that only one car could get by at a time on the two-way street. A resident, Kevin R. Mitchell, 20, told police that his parents were out of town and everyone in the residence was under 21, according to the report. Inside, police found a large amount of alcohol on tables and countertops. In all, police made 24 arrests, including Mitchell and a 16-year-old girl. Many of us remember a classmate in high school who everyone thought was the luckiest kid alive. He or she was the one whose parents would allow parties at their home, provide alcohol for the kids and confiscate car keys so no one could drive. Somehow, in the thrill-seeking, indestructible teen mind, this was an ideal situation. Bad, dangerous behavior endorsed by a parent. Fast forward 20 years and your perspective changes. It's a fact of life that children will be presented with plenty of opportunities to experiment. Make alcohol a taboo topic and you run the risk of rebellion. A 2006 Chevy Silverado was reported stolen from a driveway in the 19300 block of Kylemore Lane, police said. The owner told police the keys had been left in the car and the doors had been left unlocked. A mailbox and its post in the 10200 block of Cambridge Drive were reported destroyed, police said.
