Veterans Day is a Celebration & Duty: Mokena VFW Cmdr.

Jim Hogan, commander of the William Martin VFW Post 725 led a Veterans Day program Sunday morning.

Veterans Day is a time for celebrating and remembering, said Jim Hogan, who commands the Mokena VFW. Though a part of Sunday's ceremony involved a solemn remembrance of those veterans who paid the ultimate price, much of what the festivities at the William Martin VFW Post 725 were about comradery. Stockings, Roast Beef and Chili this Weekend

Veteran’s Day weekend is hopping in Mokena, with events and activities occurring today, tomorrow and Sunday. Which will you partake in?

It may be November, right smack in the break between Halloween and Thanksgiving, but don’t think that means a quiet, boring weekend in Mokena. There is something going on each day, and each event donates its money to a good cause, so let’s get out and do some good. Today’s date is 11/11/11. If this isn’t a day for making wishes come true, I don’t know what is. Help make the wishes of our troops overseas come true by stopping by Stockings for Our Troops at The Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center today between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. You can decorate stockings with the oodles of craft supplies provided, and a letter-writing station is also available if you’d like to add an inspiring or grateful note in your stocking. Again, our community comes together and it brings out the best in us. Dennis Bagdon and his park district do it again! Stockings for our Troops! I was able to attend this and I cannot thank the community enough for the large turnout. I even ran into another Marine there.
