Treat your little girl like the princess she is at this special Mokena Park District event.
The Mokena Park District is taking daddy-daughter date night to the next level. Dads are invited to take their little princesses out for a night of dancing, refreshments and lasting memories at this year's Cinderella Ball. It takes place Saturday, April 20 at the Mokena Park District Administration Center multi-purpose room, 10925 LaPorte Road. The ball begins at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. For ages 5-10. Vendors packed The Oaks Recreation and Fitness Center, selling everything from a stuffed coyote to candles.
The cold weather Sunday failed to keep shoppers and vendors away from the annual indoor flea market at The Oaks Recreational and Fitness Center. The event, which ran from 9 a.m. -2 p.m., served to fill the parking lot. Smiling faces with bags full of deals were proof that the event was a success. A New Lenox woman battling a knee injury pushes past the pain to run the Chicago Marathon.
Cheryl Stang, New Lenox, will be one of some 45,000 registered runners in the 35th annual Chicago Marathon. The 26.2-mile race through downtown Chicago is expected to draw an estimated 1.7 million spectators from around the world. With her heart pounding and head up, she'll be taking her position in the start coral along Chicago's lakeshore. Stang is slated to step off in the second wave of races that begins at 8 a.m. With a forecast of a brisk 52 degrees Oct. 7, she'll be weathering not only 9 mph winds but also a knee injury that she acquired about a month ago during training.
