Reckless Driving, DUI, Stolen Dryer: Police Blotter

Mokena police reports, July 23–29.

SUNDAY, JULY 29 John Morris, 46, of the 8600 block of Monaghan Drive in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence and driving without headlights. Police spotted Morris driving eastbound on 191st Street, with no headlights and only one working taillight. After officers stopped Morris near 191st and 88th Avenue, they noted the odor of alcohol, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, according to reports. Morris failed field sobriety tests and refused chemical testing. He was arrested, posted bond and was released with a Sept. 5 court date.  A resident near the 9000 block of Adare Avenue told police that someone had stolen the "no fishing" signs from their posts around a nearby pond.  FRIDAY, JULY 27 Someone scratched a sexually …

Loaded Gun, Loaded Backpack, Bike and GPS Go Missing: Police Blotter

Mokena police reports, May 28-June 5

TUESDAY, JUNE 5 Someone took a backpack that contained an iPod and a Zune mp3 player, laptop computer and makeup bag from a vehicle that was parked in the 19700 block of Scarth Lane. Two pairs of sunglasses were also reported taken from the vehicle some time between 11 p.m. June 4 and 6 a.m. June 5. The total amount lost was estimated at $1,025, including the backpack. It was not known if the vehicle was locked. Police said there were no signs of forced entry. Someone took a global positioning system unit valued at $150 and five one dollar bills from a vehicle that was parked in a driveway in the 10400 block of Willow Avenue. @ Ellis I personally enjoy reading the police blotters myself. I find it helpful to know what happened in my city or neighbooring cities. Maybe someone on here I'll know and be like "Wow, so-and-so did that to so-and-so? OMG". I just generally find it interesting, and helpful, and appreciate what our officers do to fight crime. Police Blotter: Car Burglaries, Tension and Tears at White Castle

Mokena police reports, Aug. 2-8

MONDAY, AUG. 8 A resident of the 19600 block of Foxford Lane reported that someone entered his unlocked car in his driveway and took his laptop computer and several other items in the laptop case sometime between Aug. 6 and Aug. 8. FRIDAY, AUG. 5 A resident of the 10500 block of Thornham Lane reported that her mailbox was broken off its wooden post sometime overnight. The woman said she heard a loud noise around 1 a.m. THURSDAY, AUG. 4 Graffiti was found on a retaining wall in the 9000 block of Adare Avenue. The graffiti damage was done sometime between midnight on Aug. 3 and 6 p.m. on Aug. 4, police said. Police Blotter: More Catalytic Converters Stolen, Car vs. Motorcycle

Mokena police reports, May 30-June 6

MONDAY, JUNE 6 A Frankfort man and a Tinley Park woman had their catalytic converters cut from their vehicles, police said. The woman reported hers stolen at around 4:30 p.m. from her Toyota. An officer on patrol around 9 p.m. in the Hickory Creek Metra parking lot saw a muffler hanging from a Jeep and notified the owner, police said. SUNDAY, JUNE 5 Stephen K. Baiamonte, 18, of the 9000 block of Redcastle Drive in Tinley Park, was given a ticket for underage drinking. According to the report, police saw three people around 3:30 a.m., and one of them had a backpack and ran off. Baiamonte was released at the scene and is due in court at the Mokena Village Hall. Police Blotter: Good Grooming; Copper Tubing Theft

SUNDAY, MAY 15 The owner of a house under construction in the 11500 block of Swinford Lane reported that 10 copper tubes were stolen from the house, police said. The Lemont resident said that it happened sometime between Sunday, May 1, and Sunday, May 15, when he called police. According to the report, there are no locks on the property. FRIDAY, MAY 13 Police on patrol near Hecht Park in the 19100 block of Henry Drive saw several cars had windows broken, police said. According to the reports, they contacted a Park Forest woman who reported a laptop case stolen from her car. MONDAY, APRIL 18 A Mokena resident reported her Huffy bicycle had been taken from the Downtown Mokena Metra station at 11040th McGovney Rd. She told police that she had left the bike there two or three weeks before and had come back to retrieve it on Monday.  FRIDAY, APRIL 15 David A. Balog, 51, of the 1400 block of Andrea Drive in New Lenox, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to an accident at the intersection of LaPorte Road and Brightway Drive, police said. The officer could smell alcohol on Balog's breath, according to the report, and Balog failed field sobriety tests. Balog was cited for the accident and for driving too fast for conditions. Police Blotter: Searching for Metra; Marijuana Bust

Mokena Police Reports, April 4-10.

Kathleen M. Picken, 23, of the 15800th block of 115th Avenue in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without insurance, police said. She was pulled over after she was seen by Mokena police swerving in the 10200th block of LaPorte Road, according to police. The officer smelled alcohol on her breath and she later failed field sobriety tests. She posted bond and is due in a Joliet courtroom. After a man parked his work van on the street, his neighbor called to say that the van had been vandalized. Police Blotter: Teens Take Milk Display; Liquor in Cars

Mokena police reports, March 11-13.

A 2009 Mazda3 parked in the 19100 block of Weber Road was reported damaged between the hours of 2:30 p.m. March 12 and 11:30 a.m. March 13. The owner told police the car had a 2-foot-long scratch that went from the front driver's side fender to the driver's side door.  Timothy R. O'Loughlin, 49, of the 11300 block of Hummingbird Lane, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, two counts of improper lane usage and resisting/obstructing an officer, police said. O'Loughlin was stopped after police saw his car weaving, leaving the turn signal on, turning wide onto Wolf Road from 191st Street and driving north in a southbound lane. Police Blotter: Suspected DUI on 191st; Criminal Damage to Property

Mokena police reports, March 4-9.

Richard Linares, 39, of the 1000 block of Shagbark Road in New Lenox, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to signal, improper lane usage and operation of an uninsured vehicle, police said. Linares was stopped by police after a patrol officer saw him swerving while driving westbound on 191st Street and failing to signal when he pulled into the strip mall in the 10100 block of 191st. He was released on bond pending an April court date in Joliet. Police Blotter: Criminal Trespass; Dog Bites Delivery Guy

Mokena police reports, Feb. 28-March 4.

Renee Swafford, 47, of the 11400 block of Stratford Road, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to land after she repeatedly tried to enter 191 South after being asked to leave because she was intoxicated, police said. She was released on bond pending a court date in Frankfort. A UPS delivery man told police he had been bitten on the right arm by a pit bull while making a delivery to Torrence Machine, 18830 82nd Ave. The man was treated at Advocate Medical Center in Orland Park. According to reports, the dog had received its rabies vaccination in May of 2010. Frankfort Township and Will County Animal Control were also informed.
