On the article Four New Members Elected to D159 Board of Education

A school board needs representatives from every constituency of its community: parents of school children, senior citizens, business owners and parents without children in the schools. We have an unprecedented group elected this time --- they were totally backed by the teachers union. It is very important for this group to understand right now that they represent the community and our precious children. They must understand that the school district must live within its means. Roughly 75% of any school budget goes to staff salaries and benefits. Salaries and benefis need to reflect the realities of these lousy economic times. Staff should understand that they exist for the education of the kids. Good luck, let's see what happens.

ReplyMayor Fleischer will bring new ideas. That is good. He has an opportunity to continue Mayor Werner's fine record of doing good for this community. He has one of the best village administrators in John Downs. The mayor's first task is to assure Downs that he (Downs) is the boss in the day to day operations of village. Unfortunately, I have a pessimistic view of things to come. I hope Fleischer will be able to work with his board. I hope all will remember how it was before Werner came in. Let's be grown ups and let's discontinue the silliness of village board members comments at the end of every meeting. We need this village to be run like a business. Successful businesses don't waste time with egotistical silliness.

ReplyCongrats to LW board electees. Hopefully you and the remaining board members will view the 4 high schools as an unnecessary financial burden on the citizens of LW 201. There is no reason on God's green earth why we continue with 4 hs. It is time to take this bull by the horns and close one of those schools. Your first important task is to study this issue, redraw the school boundaries and set a closing date for one of the schools no later than the end of the 2013-14 school year. By doing this, you will save the taxpayers millions of dollars. Your 2nd task is to ensure Mr Wyllie uses all his unused vacation days by June 30, 2013. A favorite trick of administrators is to accumulate vacation days over their careers. They take pay for these upon retirement. Wyllie may get paid as much as 1/4 million $$$$ after July for these days. Stop this silliness. Address this issue in pubic session at your first board meeting so the people will know you are serious public servants and intend to do what's right for the people of LW 210. This will not hurt Wyllie who will receive a pension of about $200,000 upon his retirement. By the way, to avoid this in the future, tell your new supt that vacation days do not accumulate.

We have reelected our Repub officials and maintain local control of our elected officials who will be responible to us and not some Obama wannabee in Chicago and Cook Co. Govt is best when it is close to the people. Thank you Frankfort Township voters.

ReplyBelieve it or not, the Frankfort Township election is extremely important. The dem party candidates have the power of the Cook Co dem machine working for them. It is not common knowledge, but it is true, that Dem party voters (over 2000 of them) have aready cast absentee ballots. These ballots are being held by Cook Co dem operatives. 2000 folks!!!! This is more votes than are normally cast in April elections in Frankfort Township. The intention is for Cook Co to slowly but surely take over Will Co. This will bring sky high taxes, full time jobs replacing part time jobs in Frankfort Township and the usual hate the dems use when take control of our lives. Talk to your neighbors. Everyone needs to get out and vote.

ReplyOn a recent newsletter distributed by some village candidates, Jenifer Sciaky was listed as a community activist. Isn't that why this nation is so screwed up ----- we have a community activist as the president. I think people should think twice before we vote for one on the local level.

ReplyThe first thing this board needed to do was read the contract before they offered it. The second thing is to fire their lawyer. Obviously, this contract is a boiler plate contract. Lastly, the board needs to take another look at this supt. She is obviously doing something right if the teachers don't support her. Who's in charge? The board and the supt or the teachers. Maybe the parents should have the right to vote on whether or not teachers should be retained.

ReplyBig bear mad, you mean "you're an idiot" not "your an idiot". Either way, why is it that smart people like me are hated by liberals? Does objective truth really hurt you people that much?

Actually I would prefer smaller class sizes and salaries that reflect the local economy. Paying huge salaries has never created great teachers. The teachers need to understand supply and demand. There are many great teachers out of work in IL who would appreciate working in this wonderful community for salaries much less than the present staff. I just once want to hear our teachers say how much they appreciate working here and I want to be a force for good in this community.
